Jake’s journey in cycling began at a young age, traveling across the UK to compete in youth circuit races. With a natural flair and deep passion for the sport, he quickly made a name for himself. One of his early highlights was representing in the renowned Assen Youth Tour in the Netherlands—an event that remains a coveted milestone for aspiring youth cyclists and their families today. His success as a youth and junior rider was exceptional, even managing victories at elite-level races while still riding on restricted junior gears. This standout talent earned him a spot on the top Elite Amateur squad of the time, ‘Corley Cycles’, as he made the step up into senior competition.
Jake went on to claim multiple wins at National level events, regularly competing against and outperforming national, world, and Olympic champions. Known for his sharp tactical awareness, he developed a reputation as someone who could read races with pinpoint precision—always a threat in any race scenario.
In 2012 and 2013, Jake raced professionally with UCI Continental team IG Sigma Sport, gaining invaluable experience at the top tier of British and UCI competition. He became the team’s go-to criterium rider, regularly selected for the prestigious Tour Series and Elite National Circuit Series, where he secured numerous top-ten finishes on televised stages.
The 2017 season was one of Jake’s most dominant, racking up 21 race victories and securing second place in the British Cycling Elite Rankings, just behind future WorldTour rider Harry Tanfield. Among his many wins were the Pirelli Supercrit at the Birmingham NEC Cycle Show and the back-to-back triumphs at the John and Dulcie Walker Memorial races. He also helped his team deliver a commanding performance at the Doltcini Classic, finishing with riders in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th positions.
Jake holds a Sports Science degree from the University of Bedfordshire, where his dissertation explored “Ergogenic Aids for Improving Cycling Performance.” He later paused competitive racing in 2014 to complete a Master’s degree in Elite Sporting Performance, with a thesis on “Markers for Overtraining in Athletes.”
With over 15 years of coaching under his belt, Jake has guided athletes at every level. He was the lead coach for the Spirit Racing Team from 2015 to 2022, during which time his riders secured over 200 podium finishes.
In 2023, Jake chose to take a step back from elite racing to focus on expanding Ride Revolution and developing its own self-funded race team, Ride Revolution Coaching. While he still lines up for local and national events across various disciplines, his primary mission now is mentoring the next generation of riders, sharing his deep well of racing knowledge.
As our Head Coach, Jake brings a wealth of experience, both on and off the bike. While he’s available to all Ride Revolution clients, he has a particular passion for working with high-level road athletes from the UK and abroad, helping them unlock their full potential.
